VICTIMISATION EXPERIENCES IN TASMANIA
Threatened assault An estimated 3.5 % of persons in Tasmania (14,700) experienced threatened assault during the 2017–18 reference period, including:
Approximately three in ten Tasmanians who experienced threatened assault experienced a single incident (29% or 4,300), while almost half (48% or 7,000) experienced three or more incidents. Of those who experienced face-to-face threatened assault:

Break-in and attempted break-in An estimated 2.1% of households in Tasmania (4,600) experienced a break-in during 2017–18. Of these, 65% (3,000) had the most recent incident reported to police. During the same period, approximately 1.8% of households in Tasmania (3,900) experienced an attempted break-in. Of these, 49% (1,900) had the most recent incident reported to police. Theft from motor vehicle An estimated 2.1% of households in Tasmania (4,600) experienced theft from a motor vehicle. Of these, half (50% or 2,300) had the most recent incident reported to police. The theft from a motor vehicle victimisation rate in Tasmania (2.1%) was lower than the national rate (3.1%). Malicious property damage During the 2017–18 reference period, an estimated 4.9% of households in Tasmania (10,500) experienced malicious property damage.
